"He was basically a stroke waiting to happen…”
It was Thanksgiving week, and I had been thinking a lot about all the things in my life I was thankful for. There had been so many negative things in our lives this past year, with the economy, our finances and other personal struggles (like everyone else we know—not a situation unique to us) it had been hard to focus on only "good and thankful" things for several days. But once I got thinking I realized that there are indeed many things in our life that are good, if not great right, now. Yes, things that I am very thankful for. Which brings me to the reason I am writing HealthFair and explaining my thoughts leading up to this letter. I would like to take this time to personally thank you for providing the health screening services you do—in a convenient and cost effective way for all to afford. I am a newlywed, just a few months now, and because of this health assessment service you offer, my 52-year-old husband and I will be able to spend many years of marital bliss together! You are making expensive procedures available to people like us, everyday folks. I am writing you also today to thank you for possibly saving my new husband’s life. After spending the past 8 years together we decided it was finally time to get married and scheduled our wedding for July 4th this year. Part of our planning was to get our finances, as well as other areas of our lives, in order before we joined together for the rest of our lives—figuring that would be a long "forever". Knowing that my husband's family has heart problems (his father died of a heart attack and also had had several bypass surgeries as well as an older brother having a slight stroke in his 50's) I knew we needed to get Tom to a doctor's office for a thorough complete physical. But we could not afford the financial commitments or the time involved to do so. I also knew there would be no way to get him to agree to such an ordeal—as he didn't have time—he was too busy working! These tests would take days of doctors' appointments and many hours in different waiting rooms. When I saw your full-page ad in our local newspaper, I knew right then it was a perfect plan! I picked up the phone that moment and scheduled both of us to get these health screening tests done one morning in two weeks. After all, if I just told him we were both doing it and it would only take an hour—how could he not agree to go? So that day we drove up to our local store's parking lot where the HealthFair mobile unit was parked and in we went. Well, to make a long story short, one of your technicians discovered a "critical to severe" blockage in my 52-year-old husband's right carotid artery. This result started our process of following up with our primary physical who immediately referred us to a neurosurgeon. All the while, still planning for our wedding fast approaching. We did get married on July 4th and Tom continued with several more tests which the outcome ended up being the need for surgery. So a Carotid Endarterectomy was scheduled for September 30th. After the procedure his doctor advised me that there was a lot more in there then he anticipated and it was a good thing Tom had this done. He was basically a stroke waiting to happen. We went through our HealthFair health screenings on May 7th. Thank you for making it possible for us to "fix the problem" before we even knew it was a problem and took my husband's life, just because of this lack of knowledge. He is far too young to leave me as a widow. We still have many more years to be happy newlyweds! Because of this happening to Tom, we have several other family members and close friends who have scheduled their HealthFair health screening.

“But seriously, it was refreshing…”
I have just returned from having a HealthFair screening at the trailer on Polo Parkway in Midlothian, Virginia, know it was a good morning! Yes, a good morning and a good experience. The two young ladies who did the health screening were not only professional and efficient; they were relaxed, upbeat and had a sense of humor. I enjoyed the conversation as much as I appreciated the service. It was a pleasure to be attended by such cordial individuals. The names of the young ladies got by me; one of them was from Maryland, and the other from Richmond area. I commend you on the selection of your associates. I jokingly said to them as I left that I thought they were enjoying themselves too much. But seriously, it was refreshing to see the two enjoying their work so very much.

“…The HealthFair health screening and the operation that followed most certainly saved Ray’s life.”
After seeing the health assessment advertisement for HealthFair, we scheduled a health screening appointment for my husband, Ray, for December 6. That day, from the echocardiogram, they discovered an aneurysm of 8.5 cm on Ray’s aorta. The HealthFair technicians told Ray to go to the nearest hospital immediately. I contacted Rochelle from HealthFair and she assisted me in selecting a hospital for Ray’s care. At the hospital, Ray was given a CAT scan and admitted for further health testing. They found that the aneurysm was leaking and required urgent surgery for Ray to survive. He was in surgery on December 8. The HealthFair health screening and the operation that followed most certainly saved Ray’s life.

“HealthFair provided a miracle for me and my neighbor…”

Little did I know that my neighbors’ pestering me to go to HealthFair for a health screening would save me from having a stroke. Ray, who lives next door, had gotten a health assessment and HealthFair found an aneurysm. After that, every time I saw Barbara, Ray’s wife, she asked me when I was going to HealthFair to get my health testing. In April 2006 I finally agreed to go, and I am very glad that I did.
The HealthFair technician found that I had a very clogged carotid artery and told me to see my doctor immediately. I was shocked. I always have regular and vigorous physical exams. I’m 63 years old, slim built, don’t smoke, eat a fairly low-fat diet and exercise regularly. I ride my bike 25 miles twice a week, play softball four days week and play golf. I have normal blood pressure, normal cholesterol and a healthy heart.
Within a week of the HealthFair health screening, I was in the hospital having surgery on the clogged artery. Many of the hospital staff were surprised by my condition considering my otherwise good health. My surgeon told me the artery was over 80% blocked and the plaque unstable. He was surprised that I hadn’t already had a stroke, and was sure I would’ve had one soon without surgery. Within a week of the operation, I was up and able to resume my normal activities.
HealthFair provided a miracle for my neighbor, Ray and me. I think everyone should have the health screening. It’s the best money I have ever spent.
