HealthFair has provided many answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding health screening and disease. If you don't see the question or answer you seek, contact us.
Q. Why take part in preventive health screenings?
A. Preventive health testing is a simple, affordable and effective way to identify potential disease risk that might otherwise not be detected at your yearly physical. More often than not, getting a health screening is the first step in early intervention to prevent potentially harmful health problems later in life. Preventive health screenings enable the individual to understand their risks so that they can consult with their physician and take the road towards a healthier future.
Q. Are the health screenings offered by HealthFair accurate and/or equivalent to those given by my physician?
A. HealthFair is the only nationwide mobile health screening company accredited by the prestigious Joint Commission. The Joint Commission accredits premier healthcare organizations nationwide, such as hospitals, labs and surgery centers. It is recognized as a symbol of high quality care and reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance criteria. HealthFair provides the highest quality health screenings available while maintaining affordability. Results for these specific health screenings are comparable to those you would receive in any accredited hospital.
Health screenings are completed using state-of-the-art ultrasound technology and highly skilled sonographers and medical technicians who have all completed formal health and accredited ultrasound programs, clinical rotations and specialized training. Board certified physicians review all health testing results, and written reports are mailed to the participants within 3 weeks. If a critical condition is detected you will be notified immediately by our medical staff. We highly encourage participants to share their health screening reports with their physicians.
Q. Why can’t my physician do these health screenings as part of my routine physical?
A. Due to the high costs of these tests, physicians typically only order health screening tests when a patient is showing apparent symptoms. Since most diseases are often symptomless, many times it’s too late.
Q. How can HealthFair offer top-quality health screenings at such low prices?
A. HealthFair serves a high volume of patients in a mobile setting with minimal overhead costs. Our streamlined process eliminates many of the ancillary expenses that drive up the price of healthcare. By increasing efficiency and reducing operating costs, HealthFair is able to offer top-quality health screenings that are affordable for nearly everyone.
Q. Where does HealthFair conduct the health screenings?
A. HealthFair health screenings are conducted primarily onboard our state-of-the-art mobile health screening units. Our mobile health testing units are designed with two examination rooms and a waiting room, offering patients a comfortable, private and professional atmosphere similar to what you would find in a traditional physician’s office. HealthFair also converts indoor locations—such as places of worship, senior centers, civic buildings, community centers, and corporate offices—into temporary health screening centers complete with fully enclosed private rooms.
Q. Does Medicare or health insurance cover preventive health screenings?
A. Health insurance coverage varies from policy to policy. Upon request, HealthFair will provide you with a detailed, itemized receipt that can be submitted to your health insurance company to determine coverage and/or reimbursement.
Q. How often should I have these health screenings?
A. Our physicians recommend health testing yearly because abnormal health conditions can newly develop, become manifest or intensify within a period of one year or less. Yearly health screenings will also complement your regular physicals. It is important to take into account your health risk factors and previous health screening results.
Q. How long do the health screenings take?
A. A complete health screening package (7 health screenings) typically takes less than one hour to complete, depending on the level of disease, vascular anatomy and body type.
Q. I work during the day. Can I schedule a health screening later in the day?
A. HealthFair’s goal is to make our health screenings available to everyone. We try to accommodate people’s schedules with health testing appointment times early in the day, during lunch or early evening. We offer health screenings on Saturdays as well.
Q. When will I receive my health screening results?
A. You will receive your health testing results approximately 3 weeks from the date of your health screening. As part of our strict quality control, all health screening results are read by our board certified medical physicians. Q. When should I be screened?
A. Generally, HealthFair recommends health screenings starting at age 40; however, this really depends on different risk factors, such as diabetes, family history of heart disease, stroke, or other diseases. If you reflect multiple risk factors, we highly recommend starting heath testing at an earlier age.
Q. Will I receive the results of my health screenings or will they be given directly to my physician?
A. A detailed health testing report of your results will be mailed directly to you within 3 weeks of your appointment, at which time you may take these results to your physician. A. Yes. A pacemaker will not interfere with the health screenings.
Q. How do I prepare for my health screening?
A. Some of our health screenings, such as our abdominal aortic aneurysm, require you to fast for 4 hours prior to your appointment. Please continue to take all medications as prescribed by your doctor. If you are diabetic, you may still drink water within this 4-hour period. If you’re getting blood work done, 8 hours of fasting is required. However, precise fasting instructions vary depending on what combination of health screenings you are having. Once you register for a health screening, you will receive specific instructions. In order to ensure accurate results, it is important for you to follow those instructions. Also, please wear loose fitting, two-piece clothing and do not wear pantyhose.
Q. Why should I have these health screenings done if I have no symptoms?
A. Millions of Americans are unaware they are at risk for a medical emergency or even death from vascular disorders because these diseases are generally symptomless until a catastrophic event occurs, such as stroke or aneurysm rupture. Case-in-point: Half of all stroke victims had no prior symptoms. We routinely identify individuals with moderate to severe risk who are experiencing no outward symptoms. Early identification of underlying disease allows for numerous treatment options before it is too late.
Q. How accurate are your health screenings?
A. HealthFair is dedicated to providing accurate health testing results to our participants. To do this, HealthFair hires highly qualified ultrasound sonographers and medical technicians to perform your health screening and uses the same state-of-the-art equipment that you would find in your physician’s office.
