What is an A1c Test?

Experts from the American Diabetes Association, the European Association for the Study of Diabetes and the International Diabetes Federation recommends the A1C test be the primary test used to diagnose prediabetes, type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. The A1c test is a simple blood test that is used to measure your average blood sugar level for the past two to three months instead of your blood sugar level at a point in time. If you have either type of diabetes then this test is important to show how well you are dealing with your diabetes and also to show if the control plan you are using is effective. The A1c test can also be called glycated hemoglobin testing, hemoglobin A1C and HbA1c.

What is this Test for?

The A1c test result will tell you your average blood sugar (or glucose) value over the last 2-3 month period. The higher your A1c level, the poorer your blood sugar control. If you already have diabetes then the higher your A1c level is, the higher your risk of complications becomes.

A1cNow+ values are shown to you as a percentage which corresponds with an estimated Average Glucose value, which is represented in milligrams over deciliters (mg/dl). The meanings of your value can be found below.

  • 4.0- 6.0% or 68- 126 mg/dl = Non-diabetic Levels
  • 6.1- 6.9% or127- 153 mg/dl = In Control
  • 7.0- 8.4% or154- 195 mg/dl = Monitor Closely
  • 8.5- 10.4% or196- 252 mg/dl = Elevated Levels
  • 10.5% and above or 253 mg/dl and above = Seriously Elevated Levels
  • After your test, our HealthFair professionals will help you determine the proper course of action in order to ensure your best health.

    "Ascending Aortic Aneurysm"

We want to let everyone know that the services that are offered through HealthFair proved to be invaluable to his life. We were happy that the price for that valuable checkup was also affordable for the average person. Go get checked! It may save YOUR life too!"

"Diagnosing me in 2006 with mitral valve prolapse"

I just wanted to belatedly thank your company for diagnosing me in 2006 with mitral valve prolapse and regurgitation. I was 50 at the time and had begun to notice much more than usual fatigue. My husband and I were having coffee on Sunday morning, saw your ad, and he urged me to go. I did and your simple echocardiogram of my heart showed the problem. I was at the cardiologist within a month and had the valve repaired 4 months later. Otherwise, I would have had congestive heart failure. So - thank you. I tell all of my friends your service is worth every penny.

    "HealthFair saved my husband's life!"

"Every doctor and nurse that saw Delbert said that HealthFair had saved his life. They could not believe that we found his aneurysm at a HealthFair! For less than $200 you saved his life!"

"Your 7 test package was truly an investment in my health."

"A few months ago, I reluctantly responded to a flyer in my local newspaper for stroke and aneurysm screening. One week later and to my surprise, the screening showed a 90 percent blockage in my carotid arteries, making me a prime candidate for a debilitating or deadly stroke. As a result, I had surgery and am fully on my way to recovery and good health. My wish is that my experience will encourage others to have the same early detection tests."

"HealthFair Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm testing saved my life!"

"On Tuesday, July 20th, 2004, I went in for HealthFair's seven-test ultrasound package in Richmond, Virginia. From the moment I arrived, HealthFair's dedicated and professional staff made me feel at ease. During my testing, the staff detected a 7.7 cm Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm which I had no idea was there and for which I had no noticeable symptoms. This was very scary because ruptured Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms are usually 90 percent fatal. Because of their findings, and the blessings of the Almighty, I was able to secure the necessary medical assistance and undergo a successful surgery on August 11th, 2004."

"This Thanksgiving, I Give Thanks For My Life."

"I saw an ad for the mobile ultrasound tests a year before actually signing up to be tested. Unfortunately our friend in Vermont didn't have an opportunity to have these inexpensive tests and died of a ruptured aneurysm. Your seven-test package was truly an investment in my health."

"These tests most certainly saved Ray's life."
