What is a Carotid Artery Ultrasound?

Just a short commendation for Inova’s leadership and especially the terrific staff at your Mobile Health Clinic that I visited January 31^st, 2013 at the parking lot at Mt Vernon Inova Hospital.

Each of the staff at the clinic were courteous, professional and the tests timely—I underwent a series of tests that I wouldn’t normally get during my annual physical (which I had two weeks prior). The tests were cost effective, the unique blood test (finger pricking) achieved the same results in minutes compared the my doctor’s staff drawing blood and taking a week to get results back, with costs much reduced, so the two tests were mutually confirming.

      Could you let the staff at the mobile clinic know how much I appreciated their work and their courtesy, professionalism and excellent organizational skills!

I just received my personal health report from HealthFair and I wanted to call the organization and let you know how extremely pleased I was with the whole program. The people were friendly and courteous; they seemed to know what they were doing. They answered my questions, and I got my report back. It was extremely helpful. The really awful things that people are really scared about, aneurysms and so forth, I didn’t have any of those. The things that I knew I needed to work on, weight reduction, types of eating that I do and exercises, all of that I knew about, but was kind of avoiding were on there.

It was very well-worded, everything was understandable to an average person and it made me feel very good about the things that were not wrong and gave me specific ideas of things to do [to make some changes in my life]. I found it extremely helpful and is something I will hang on to and will pass on to my doctors. It has motivated me to make some changes in my life.

Had it not been for this particular program, none of this would have happened because people don’t just suddenly decide to have all these test done. If they were done in particularly in a hospital or a doctor’s office it would cost a great deal of more money. The money I paid was more than well worth it and I would encourage anyone, any adult to take advantage of this when they come into your area.

Students of Shelton School were very fortunate to be a part of receiving heart screening through Living for Zachary by The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano and HealthFair. When parents were sent information to reserve a time for screening, all were filled within one hour.  We had a few students who received results that alerted them to follow up with their physician. This experience was such a gift to our students and families.  All the personnel were so friendly as well as professional.  We are truly grateful for being given the opportunity to provide this screening for our families.

I am a 68 year old man who thought he was in pretty good shape. As a result of my last screening test, I am still alive. The reason that I originally signed up was that I had a feeling that “something” was not right. I went to my screening and after running the tests, the tech gave me a slip of paper and told me to see my physician ASAP. I asked if it could be postponed until next week, but she told me that tomorrow would not be too soon. So I immediately sought out my doctor and I found out that one of my carotid arteries was 97% blocked. I had surgery within a day, and the surgeon told me that it was basically totally blocked and that I was lucky. So to say that I appreciate what HealthFair means to me is beyond appreciation.

On June 1, 2012 I had a screening done with HealthFair. When the results came in I brought them to my  doctor where he immediately did an ultrasound probe.

That is when my doctor noticed how clogged my arteries were. He told me to go to the hospital the next day so they can borrow a vein. 3 days later I had a triple bypass. Were it not for HealthFair it could have been tragic. I can’t thank you enough.
